I know I haven't posted many new stampin' projects lately, but my attention and focus have been on another super fun project!! I LOVE fabric and sewing and have always wanted to learn to quilt...I even took a class way back in 1991, the year my youngest was born. I have no idea how I thought I would ever have time to quilt with two small children and a brand new baby to care for. Needless to say, that project is STILL sitting in a box somewhere...unfinished.
Well, 23 years later, with my very first grandchild due any day now, I am thrilled to say I've actually COMPLETED my first quilt!! WooHoo!!!!!
I really wanted to make a handmade keepsake for him, but I knew I needed to start with something sort of simple, so I decided on a strip quilt. Surely, this would be a fairly quick and easy project...right? But then...because I always manage to make things more involved than they really need to be...I thought, wouldn't it be so cool to personalize it and appliquè his name onto it!! Of course, I did not take into consideration that my sewing machine was so old it didn't even have a zig-zag stitch. Thankfully, I have a very generous husband who gave me an early Christmas gift...a brand new, computerized sewing machine with something like 80 stitches! How Awesome!! After the initial learning curve of getting familiar with a new machine, I was not only able to appliqué his name...
I was even able to make this darling tag with it...SO FUN!!!
To all of you accomplished quilters out there, please don't look too closely...it's far from perfect, but completely made with love : )
Now that it's finished, I can honestly say it was not a quick and easy project...mostly because of the appliquêd letters. Practice makes perfect when it comes to appliquê. But I definitely learned a lot, which will be very helpful when making the next quilt, which will be very soon! My first granddaughter is due in April!!

Thank you Barb : ) That's my goal too. My grandmother crocheted, so she made each of her grandchildren their own afghan. She's been gone for years, but it's really special having that handmade keepsake from her. I hope that's how my grandchildren feel about their quilts too ; )
